DAY 01

Arrival in Kathmandu, hotel transfer

Api base camp trek, this most awaited adventure begins as you land in Kathmandu. Our representative will be at the airport arrival gallery who will receive, pick you up and safely transfer to a renowned hotel in the city. If you arrive in Kathmandu by the evening, we will brief you about the trek and make you explore around the Thamel area which is famous for the night life. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

DAY 02

Kathmandu Sightseeing day

You will utilize the second day in sightseeing around Kathmandu city. There are various UNESCO listed World heritage sites in Kathmandu like Pashupatinath temple, Swoyambhunath, Baudhanath stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square etc. You will finish visiting these all by the afternoon. Then, we will finalize your permits and start the preparations for the trek.

We will guide and assist you through shopping as well. If you need to rent the trekking gears, it will be less costly and comfortable to wear too. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

DAY 03

Flight day to Dhangadi & Scenic Drive to Attariya 

The third day is a flight day from Kathmandu to Dhangadi. You will have to take a morning flight from Kathmandu, which will take you to Dhangadi in more than an hour like 1 hour 10 minutes in average. Kathmandu lies in hilly region and Dhangadi in Terai region which will provide a space of scenic views of the landscape shift.

Then, as soon as you get landed and checked out of the airport, you will be driven to Attariya which is 4 to 5 hours away through Nepal’s western plains. Overnight stay at a hotel or a guesthouse in Attariya.

DAY 04

Drive day to Ganna in Darchula

This day you will be driven your way through river valleys, river basins and scenic hills. The drive will be a long drive experience of the trip, as the length of the drive is 7 to 8 hours. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Ganna.

DAY 05

 Drive to Makarigaad & then trek to Ghusa 

The fifth day you will be driven from Ganna to Makarigaad which will be the trekking starting point from where you initiate to hike through the trails. The deep valleys, lush forests and remote trails will lead your way to Ghusa. Trekking will take almost 4 to 5 hours of walk. Overnight stay at a teahouse in Ghusa.

DAY 06

Trek day to Simar (Ghopte) 

The dense forests, alpine grasslands, and stony routes wind together in this distant Api himal region to offer phenomenal mountain vistas. The views are really amazing when you reach Simar (Ghopte). Trekking from Ghusa to Simar (Ghopte) is a better viewing hike experience too. It is a high altitude site where we stop for camping.

As you hike upwards, the air gets thinner, colder and the landscape you see are barren. The camp will be set here, surrounded by high mountains and very peaceful mountain ambience. It takes around 7 hours of a hike to reach Simar (Ghopte). Overnight stay at Simar (Ghopte).

DAY 07

Trek to Dhuli Odar 

From Simar (Ghopte), the trek resumes to Dhuli Odar. It is a beautiful high altitude camping site, very mesmerizing and lesser known. So, the crowd will not be any near. The trail to this Dhuli Odar is challenging due to steep ascents and descents, passing by the rugged terrains. You need to cross glacial moraines and rocky ridges too.

You will experience the raw mountain beauty from Dhuli Odar. It takes 6-7 hours of hiking to reach Dhuli Odar, so it demands good physical health. You need proper acclimatization as these are high altitude camping sites. Once you get into your tent, the chilled thin air and starlit sky just makes the whole Himalayan ambience more mesmerizing.

DAY 08

Trek to Api Base Camp & Hike to Kali Dhunga Lake (4000m) 

The most exciting day of this trip, the eighth day welcomes the sun that takes us to Api Base Camp which is located at 3,700 meters above the sea level. Then, we hike to Kali Dhunga Lake which is 4,000 meters above the sea level.

The excitement of this day also brings the challenge to ascend the Base camp as well. The steep climbs and rugged terrains make it difficult. From the Api Base Camp, you will get to enjoy panoramic views of Mount Api. Mt. Api is one of the higher mountains that crosses 7,000 meters altitude mark. Mt. Api is at an altitude of 7,132 meters. The view from the base camp is serene.

The same day we have got a plan to hike to Kali Dhunga lake after a short rest. Kali Dhunga lake is a glacial lake with tranquil water defining the sublimity of the nature. Kali Dhunga lake is surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains. This trek needs caution as well, but the serenity you will witness this day will make the efforts worth it.

DAY 09

Trek Back to Khaikot

From the ninth day, the descending starts leaving the towering mountains behind paving our way to Khaikot. Khaikot is the local village. The trekking route passes through deep valleys, dense forests and traditional villages.

The view we walk through offers us a completely rural Himalayan ambience. Khaikot do have basic teahouses that provides accommodations with simple furnishings. Most of the trekkers take rest here after a long trekking week. You will reach Khaikot walking 6 to 7 hours. Overnight stay at a teahouse in Khaikot.

DAY 10

Trek down to Ghusa

The tenth day is dedicated to returning to Ghusa. Following the trail through lush forests and river valleys, we trek downhill. Ghusa is a small village where we can either camp or overnight stay in basic lodges with simple furnished rooms enjoying the great hospitality from the locals.

The surrounding is sublime, with waterfalls making it more serene and agricultural field with terrace farming adds the beauty further. Overnight stay at a lodge in Ghusa.

DAY 11

Trek down to Khandeshwar 

Khandeshwar is the destination of the eleventh day which prominently marks the success or glorious end of the Api himal adventure. The trekking route follows river valleys and paths with forest on either sides offering the glimpses of peaks which are at a distant location. Overnight stay at Khandeshwar.

DAY 12

Trek to Makarigad & Drive to Gokule 

This day is the last trekking day of the trip that involves a short trek to Makarigad too. Then, we take a scenic drive to Gokule. The drive takes us through dense hills and traditional settlements. It provides a relaxing end to the Api Base Camp trek. Overnight stay at Gokule.

Drive Back to Dhangadi 

In the thirteenth day, we will return to Dhangadi by a long yet beautiful drive. Dhangadi lies on the Terai plains, near to the Indian border which signifies the shift from mountain range to lowland plains of Nepal. The changing landscape represents the beauty of this country.

DAY 14

Fly Back to Kathmandu 

This day you will get back to Kathmandu by a short flight from Dhangadi. Coming back to the city, you can rest in the hotel, shop the souvenirs around the city, visit temples, stupas, masjid and museums that were left to be visited on the second day. Enjoy the Thamel night life and the last night of this trip before you depart to your own country.

DAY 15

Departure 

This is the last day of your trip. You will be departing from Kathmandu to your home country or next destined country. We will mark your departure a special one with Nepali traditions and rituals. You will be dropped to the airport from the hotel 3 hours prior to your flight time. And, one of our representatives will be there to bid you a good bye from the country of memories and mountains.

The lungs must be strong which holds the capacity for the altitudes up to 4,200m. The people should have capability to claim decent 800-1200meter elevation in the base camp tour.

Api Base Camp trek offers the visitor basic teahouses, homestays and camping facilities due to its remote of far western Nepal. The trekker can except simple teahouses and homestays in the lower region of village like Ghusa, simar and khaikot where the local there are local teahouses and homestay.

They provide simple facilities with simple room with shared bathroom, basic wooden bed and thin mattress to take rest. They offer local food like dal bhat, noodle and tea prepared on local kitchen also electricity is limited so there are solar-powered and kerosene lamp.

There is camping facilities with weatherproof tents, sleeping bags and foam mats. There are dining tent with basic meals and toilet tent are set by support staff to enjoy and experience new adventure. There are different facilities and challenges in the trek with the beauty for nature and provide environment friendly. The visitor cannot perform showers at high camp they can perform wet wipes and bucket washes. There is limited connectivity no wi-fi, sporadic mobile signals in villages.

The teahouses required advance booking and can arrange the guides. The visitor can bring sleeping bag, portable charger and toilet paper to maintain the comfort. The tour doesn’t provide high facilities and gives the beauty of nature.

Safe drinking water

The api base camp is the remote place with less facility and challenges in accessing safe drinking water. The trekker can ensure hydration by minimizing health risk with water sources and risks. There are different natural sources including lakes, glacial streams and kali dhunga 4,000 meters which may contain pathogens.

The limited tea houses provide boiled water and most of the villagers rely on the mountain water. There is different purification method in this trek like boiling, portable filters, chemical tablets and UV purifiers. The most reliable method of drinking water is boiled water which kills bacteria and viruses. The visitor should carry 2-3 liter of purified water and should use electrolyte tablets to say away from dehydration in high altitudes.

The tea house sells bottle water but supplies are unreliable in remote area. The place prioritizes the water purification over the reliance on packaged water. They prefer to provide the pure water and the melted mountain water with full purification method.

Winter season: We also suggest you to not travel or just avoid this season for the Api Base Camp trek.
