Chitwan lies in a humid subtropical zone influenced by monsoons. It has high humidity. Monsoon starts in June and ends in late September. After the monsoon season humidity drops significantly by clearing out the clouds.
The highest temperature in Chitwan in Summer reaches 45 degrees Celcius and the lowest temperature can reach up to 5 degrees Celcius in December.

There are 68 species of recorded mammals in Chitwan. The king of the Jungle of Chitwan is the Royal Bengal Tiger. The national park is home to the best tiger species in the world but is rarely found anywhere else. Due to the poaching and hunting of Tigers, they also come under the rare species.
The one-horned Rhinoceros is another endangered species found in Chitwan, Bardiya, and Suklaphant National Parks. Yearly the number of Rhinos are decreasing drastically and the main reason behind this is Poaching, Climate change, and lack of Government strict rules for the preservation of Rhino’s wildlife.
Last time there were around 543 recorded species of birds occurring in the National Park and that survey happened in 2006. More than 20 species of birds occurring only in this National Park are endangered.
Around 160 or more species of birds migrate to Chitwan National Park from northern latitudes in autumn to spend winter here.
