Itinerary

DAY Day 01:

Arrival in Kathmandu ( Alt. 1300 m )

You will be served with a pickup from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at Kathmandu. Then followed by a transfer to hotel. Kathmandu’s renowned and excellent hotel will best facilitate your overnight stay. Check in and rest. If time favors, we can involve you in activities like evening Sandhya Aarati at Pashupatinath temple.

DAY Day 02:

Day spend in Kathmandu ( Alt. 1300 m )

When you are done with your breakfast, we will organize a sight-seeing city tour to various temples and stupas of Kathmandu. Palace (durbar) squares and drive back to the hotel for lunch. Then, we will assist you for the final preparation to Kailash Mansarovar journey. We can guide you through your shoppings and requirements. Dinner at the same hotel and a good rest.

DAY Day 03:

Drive to Kerung ( Alt. 2900 m )

In the Kailash Mansarovar journey, through Trishuli , Dhunche and Syabrubesi , Kerung is almost 175 k m away from Kathmandu. So, an early morning drive to Kerung will kick start our phenomenal journey. You will be served with packaged breakfast on the way to Kerung. Lunch at Nepal – China border , with the blend experience of Nepalese and Chinese cuisine at the border itself.

A short walk across the border , need to cross a bridge which might take around 10 minutes.
When done with all the immigration formalities and custom requirements, Chinese guide and bus drivers will process us through journey to Kerung. Arrival at Kerung will welcome with an overnight stay at the hotel and a good dinner.

DAY Day 04:

Acclimatization day at Kerung ( Alt. 2900 m )

The fourth day of the Kailash Mansarovar journey is a rest day. The simple reason behind is for acclimatization. Kathmandu lies at 1300 m above the sea level and within a day you are 1600 m up at Kerung. Similarly, the following day you will again be 1600 m up at Saga or Dongba which is 4450 – 4500 m above the sea level.

So, acclimatization seems very important. During the day, you can visit nearby places in Kerung and get special experiences on cuisines and Chinese local environment.

DAY Day 05:

Saga ( Alt. 4450 m ) or Dongba ( Labua - la 5050 m , peku - tso and saga )

This 245 km drive to Saga from Kerung is going to be the first long driving day of the Kailash Mansarovar journey. This land of Tibet through arid way of the long drive is full of dusty, gritty and rugged experience.

On the way, the sight of many sheep and yaks will refresh the scenery and by the dusk, you will come across Brahma-Putra River to reach authentic Tibetan town. Hotel in Saga will feature you with a comfortable overnight stay.

DAY Day 06:

Reach to Lake Mansarovar ( Alt. 4558 m )

This 500 km drive in order to reach Lake Mansarovar from Saga is the longest driving day of the Kailash Mansarovar journey with splendid joyful experience and excitement to see sheep and yaks grazing on the land of Tibet aside the wide valley following various rivers.

The majestic view of snowcapped Himalayas, traditional attires of shopkeepers on the roadside, hot tea and other supplies will take your breath away and by dusk you can see the first glimpse of sacred Kailash Parbat and serene Lake Mansarovar.

The freshness of still Lake Mansarovar will take away all your tiredness and hurdles during the journey. Lake Mansarovar is blessed by surroundings of Kailash Parbat, Lake Rashekshi and Mount Gurula- Mandata. Overnight stay beside Lake Mansarovar.

DAY Day 07:

Puja and drive to Tarchen / Darchen ( Alt. 4565 m )

Lake Mansarovar is believed to be the soul of God Brahma in Hinduism. Hindu pilgrims worship this serene natural resource and take a holy dip to gain supernatural feeling.

Lord Shiva is believed to have taken regular bath at Lake Mansarovar. This lake is one of the topmost highlight and attraction of Kailash Mansarovar journey. Lake Mansarovar being the lake of tranquility and bliss, holy puja is offered to this sublime foundation of nature.

After all, we will head towards Tarchen which is 4565 m above the sea level and is also considered as the base camp for the sacred Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation).

DAY Day 08:

Trek to DehraPuk ( Alt. 5000 m )

The eighth day of Kailash Mansarovar journey is electrifying, thrilling and exciting as we trek towards DehraPuk through ridges, rock faces and rock cliffs.

The stony cliffs will welcome with captivating waterfalls. The clouds in the blue sky will impress as Lord Shiva and you will believe to be getting all the blessings you need from the Lord himself.

The trekking trail is about 18 km, and it may take around 7 – 8 hours for the completion. Time may vary according to the locomotive ability of the individual and individuals in the group. Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

DAY Day 09:

Next day of Kailash Parikrama , crossing Dolmo La Pass ( Alt. 5630 m ) , arrive at Juthulpuk

The ninth is the second day of Kailash Parikrama and is considered to be the most difficult day of Kailash Mansarovar yatra / journey.

Walking uphills up to Dolmo La pass which lies 5630 m above the sea level. We can view Gauri Kunda at the base. Through steepy and rocky route, we cross the pass and reach the base.

This is followed by a brief walk at flat land to reach Juthulpuk. Parvati Sthal and Gauri Kunda are the major highlights of Day 09; you will refresh your whole day experience by an overnight stay at guest house in Juthulpuk.

DAY Day 10:

Terminating day of Kailash Parikrama , and drive to Dongba/ Saga ( Alt. 4450 m )

It is a 3- hour easy walk from Juthulpuk to Tarchen / Darchen which will terminate the Kailash Parikrama. Through the glorious views admist all the memories in your heart you will be driven to Saga or Dongba. Pilgrims fill holy water from the Lake Mansarovar (Jal, as the sign of purity) in the bottle while heading via Mansarovar.

DAY Day 11:

Drive back to Kerung ( Alt. 2900 m )

Following the same route of 270 k m and about 5.5 hours of a drive, you will return back to Kerung from Saga. The eleventh day is the last day of Kailash Mansarovar yatra to stay at Tibet. Overnight stay at the hotel at Kerung town.

DAY Day 12:

Cross Nepal – Tibet border and Drive back to Kathmandu ( Alt. 1300 m )

With all the immigration formalities again, we bid a goodbye to Tibetan guide and bus drivers. Driving back to Kathmandu through Syafrubesi , Dhunche , Trishuli and Nuwakot. Transfer to hotel and overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

DAY Day 13:

Departure to home

The thirteenth day will mark the end of your journey to Nepal for Kailash Mansarovar yatra. You will be assisted with shoppings and requirements, time being in concern. Drop to Airport before 3 hours of your original flight time and we bid you a very goodbye with traditional farewell rituals from Nepal.

Distance vs. Psychology

Altitude psychology

Time frame of the walk and difficulty of the Kailash Mansarovar yatra depends on the altitude as well. Pilgrims / Travelers typically become slow when the altitude rises as the level of oxygen decreases with the increase of altitude.

Steep Climbs

Sometimes during the Kailash Mansarovar yatra, 5 k m can feel and take longer time than a flat 15 km route. Some ways of trails are leaded by the stairs too. While ascending the stairs and up ways of trails, pilgrim / travelers feel tired and difficulty in ascending. Descending the stairs and down ways of trails might seem easy , but it increases stress and strain on the knee and the feet.

Terrain Conditions

Historical and Religious Significance of Mount Kailash

Hinduism

In Hinduism, it is believed that Mount Kailash is the residence to Lord Shiva and his family. In Hindu mythology, Mount Kailash is considered as the center of the universe. It is said that Lord Shiva meditates here and awakens his spiritual aspect. Those who make their foot forward towards the Kailash Mansarovar yatra gets his blissful blessings and he bestows the best upon the pilgrims. There’s a belief of erasing sins through Parikrama (circumambulation) around majestic Mount Kailash.

Buddhism

In Buddhism, it is believed that Mount Kailash is the dwelling place and home of Demchok ( Chakrasamvara ). In Buddhist cosmology, Mount Kailash is considered as the spiritual center of the universe. And the mountain is viewed as the cosmic Mandala. There is a belief of being led to enlightenment through Kora (circumambulation) around majestic Mount Kailash. Tibetan Dumplings / Nepali MO : MO:

Tibetan dumplings, authentically Nepali MO: MO: is a must try Himalayan cuisine that is most popular in Tibet and especially in Nepal and people try during Kailash Mansarovar Joureny who tend to explore the culture. They are typically in round shape or c – shaped / Crescent – shaped dumplings wrapped by flour dough, filled with Vegetables, Cabbage, Onions, soya chunks, Paneer, Meat, Garlic, Carrot, and other spices. Tibetan noodles, authentically Nepali Thukpa is a must try Himalayan cuisine that is very popular in Tibet and especially in Nepal and people try during Kailash Mansarovar Journey who tend to explore the culture. It is a noodle taken with soup / broth with vegetables / Soy Chunks or Tofu / meat especially flavored with onion , ginger, green chillies , soy sauce , pepper , Sichuan peppercorns , salt , coriander leaves , Nepali spices and various Tibetan spices. Tibetan noodles can also be classified into Gyathuk and Bhakthuk which are similar to Thukpa but thinner noodles and short , hand – cut noodles used respectively in thick soup / broth.

If the trekkers have any dietary restrictions like being vegan, vegetarian, gluten free or being intolerant to lactose, it is very crucial for the trekkers to have detailed information by communicating with the trek / travel agency or the guide or the cooks. The menu can be optimized with various options for pilgrims / travelers who has such type of dietary restrictions. We suggest the trekkers to carry their preferred snacks on hand to avoid such issues.

Water Facilities and Proper hydration

Proper hydration is essential throughout the ascents and descents of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Dehydration might be the cause of altitude sickness and also can worsen the health issues created by altitude sickness. But, you cannot drink or carry the water from resources we collide on the way. Water purification is necessary while travelling through the distant routes. For your safety, the tap water and river/lake/stream water are never healthy to drink. There are some techniques to purify the water. Ask for the boiled water from hotels / guest houses / tea – houses, use iodine, chlorine and UV treatment to purify the water,
­ Use of purification tablets, gravity squeeze filters, sterilizers along the trail.

A. Book in Advance

Book the pilgrim schedules, Travel packages, guesthouses and hotels in advance, because at the final moment you will not get vacant rooms and great packages for the Kailash Mansarovar yatra. Usually, Kailash Mansarovar routes and trails remain busy during seasons or Full Moon Day.

B. Carry snacks
Carry preferred snacks like energy bars, dry fruits, instant noodles etc. on hand, which will fuel you and you’re walking plus trekking ‘will power’ engine through the ascents and descents of the Kailash Mansarovar journey and Parikrama / Kora of Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. Carrying the snacks will be handy if you have some dietary restrictions.

C. Carry water purifiers
Carry water filters like gravity, squeeze filters and chemical purifiers like iodine, chlorine, purification tablets and UV sterilizers to purify the water.

D. Cash on hand
ATMs are only available in the main towns and city area, also with lesser access to network + no reach to internet might affect the e-payment facilities. So, carrying Nepali Rupees or some Chinese Yuan cash on hand will be very helpful throughout the journey.

E. Carry a power bank for self-dependency on mobile charging facilities.
