Overview

Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley Trek is an interesting and exciting adventure around Far North Mid-West of Nepal and within the remote wild country of northern areas of Gorkha district where we have combined both and the best of the region of central Himalaya.

Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trekking lead you to the most fascinating and wildest region where you will be incomplete ambiance within the pristine and hidden valley of Tsum which the native knows by the ancient Tibetan name as “Beyul Kyimolung” which means Valley of Happiness.

Tsum Valley will be our first visit which is east of the Manaslu area and behind the massive bulk of Ganesh Himal also known as Yangri in the local language of Tsum and Manaslu region.

The walk leads after a great long and interesting drive from the capital Kathmandu to reach low warm areas around heavy agricultural farm villages of Gorkha district at Arughat town and then starting walks from Soti-Khola village, where the walk follows on the same trail of Manaslu route, past Jagat and Philm to reach the first village of Tsum at Chumling.

From Chumling enter into the windswept territory to reach the remote and impressive villages of Chokan-Paro with Ni-le having an exciting time facing outmost views of high snow-capped peaks then reaching our first highlight of the adventure on reaching Mu Gompa, a place with old monastery enriched with ancient artifacts and tall idols of Lord Buddha and other famous Gurus.

Enjoying marvelous moments where the walk leads to visit another nice village of Rachen with its monastery which is worth visiting before joining our treks on the main trail of Manaslu at Lokpa and Namrung villages.

The adventure leads behind the great Tsum Valley of happiness as walk enter the main wide trail of Manaslu with a superb panorama of the Manaslu range of peaks as the journey continues from one place to another to reach a major village in Sama-Gaon situated on route to Larke-La pass and towards Manaslu base camp.

At Sama-Gaon explore local cultures and the interesting traditional life of Manaslu villagers where the walk leads to the valley rim of Manaslu, and the next morning climb high to the top of Larke-la pass with the overwhelming panorama of surrounding great peaks.

Slowly, the walk leads to a long descent back into green lush vegetation with tall trees of rhododendrons and pines at Bhimthang a wonderful spot within the forested surroundings and then downhill to reach Dharapani village where the walk completes taking a drive back to the low warm area at Besisar headquarter town of Lamjung district.

From Besisar a scenic and exciting overland brings you to Kathmandu to conclude our most remarkable and fascinating adventure with an awesome experience on Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trekking.

Best Seasons for Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trekking:

From March to May and September to early November months of the year, where March to May longer days with sun-light hours till late afternoon with clear days for excellent views of snow-capped peaks and pleasant walks, can get cloudy with light rains and can snow on higher elevations sometimes.

March to May when hills are alive with seasonal wild-flower in bloom especially rhododendrons of various species from tall trees to a bush, September to early November is another best time for clear views of peaks and walks but shorter days and sunlight hours due to autumn or fall season.

Much colder nights and mornings including around shades can snow sometimes around higher hills with more freezing temperatures with chances of snow on Larke-La pass.

From mid-November onward Tsum and Manaslu villagers migrate to low warm areas to escape the cold and harsh winters, where most villages will be deserted and lodges will be closed from November onward till March and April months.

Itinerary

DAY 01

Arrival in Kathmandu via various international airlines and transfer to hotel.

On fresh arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal international airport received by staff and guide with a short transfer into the hotel.
Kathmandu city around exciting areas at Thamel where your hotels are situated, here our guide will brief about treks and other necessary information regarding your stay and of the treks.

In the evening group welcomes dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with a cultural program to give you a glimpse of local culture with music and dance while having your dinner.

DAY 02

In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour at places of interest and world heritage sites

A free day in Kathmandu after breakfast join our exciting and interesting sightseeing tour led by our expert city guide to show you the historical wonders of Nepal within world heritage sites, after a great and enjoyable tour with time for trek preparations.
DAY 03

Drive to Soti Khola past Arughat town 710 m -07 hrs.

Morning overland journey on the scenic and exciting highway on Kathmandu and Pokhara main road following Trisuli River.
Then the route diverts to reach around low warm farm areas of Gorkha and Dhading districts to reach at farm town in Arughat, where drive follows Burigandaki River for few hours to reach the end of the drive at Soti-Khola for an overnight stop in a nice farm village located next to Soti stream that joins into Burigandaki River.
DAY 04

Trek to Maccha Khola 900m -06 hrs.

Starting the first-morning walk with a climb for a few hours heading past a nice hill village within a farm area and views of cascading waterfalls, the walk continues on winding ups around cultivated terrace fields of Lapbesi on mid hill village as walk descends to a wide, sandy riverbed and follow a path that meanders below a steep, craggy valley side.

Trek continues with a climb towards Machha Khola for an overnight stop, a small farm village with teashops and nice simple small lodges for an overnight stay, where Maccha means Fish hence the name as Machha Khola (stream).

DAY 05

Trek to Jagat 1,340 m-06 hrs.

From Machha-Khola walk through farm villages with nice cultivated fields, where the vegetation changes gradually as altitude gains slowly with cooler air, morning walk leads to cross a stream where Machha Khola (Fish Stream) name comes from.

From here walk upstream towards Bensi village a place with a natural hot spring known as ‘Tatopani’ in Nepali.

A walk continues where the valley becomes turns narrow and crosses over a bridge to reach Doban located on a high shelf of Burigandaki River, with refreshing stops walk leads across Lauri stream to cross again over bridges and then descend into an open valley of Yara Khola, then walk for another hour to reach Jagat village for an overnight stop.

Jagat a nice-looking farm village of moderate size after Arughat; people are of mixed races with Magar, Chettries, Brahman, Manaslu Bhotia (Tibetan-looking tribes), and some Newar people.

DAY 06

Trek to Lokpa 2,200m - 05 hrs.

From Jagat village, the morning heads to a higher hill around rural farm villages where the trail descends to cross a bridge towards Nagjet and then walks past Philim, a nice farm village with scattered houses.

After Philim walks leads around farm terraces of golden agriculture fields of wheat, and barley, as the climb, leads above a rocky ridge within a forest of bamboo to reach Dyang village and the adventure leads further to reach a small farm village at Lokpa, where Manaslu and Tsum valley separates on next day walks.

DAY 07

Trek to Chumling 2,386 m - 06 hrs.

After Lokpa village, walk head to our first highlights of the adventure at Tsum known as the valley of happiness, as our route enters a narrow gorge then with a short descent and uphill climb into rhododendron and pine tree forest walking past small farm villages then climbing above Lungwa Khola to reach at Chumling village for first night stop around Tsum Valley.
DAY 08

Trek to Chokan-Paro 3,010 m - 05 hrs.

From here onward enter the new fresh country and away from the main trekking trails of Manaslu as the walk leads towards Tsum in the valley of happiness, walk further past farmlands and smaller villages facing views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal, as the walk ends on reaching a nice village at Chokan Paro for the overnight stop.
DAY 09

Trek to Ni-le 3,361m after a visit of Milereppa cave - 06 hrs.

From here onward adventure takes you into the heart of Tsum valley, where morning head towards the high area at Ni-le village within the wide exposed valley, dramatic scenery of dry and windswept terrain similar to Tibetan landscapes.

Entering a country where tree lines drop for a few short juniper and willow trees, the journey continues with grand views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal range of peaks, walk finally completes reaching Ni-le village with time to explore a meditation cave of great Buddhist saint ‘Guru Milereppa’ of 11th century.

DAY 10

Trek to Mu Gompa 3,700 m - 04 hrs.

Today a short walk to reach the end of our trip at Tsum Valley reaching Mu Gompa, with an old impressive monastery, walk leads to a climb within high, dry exposed terrain with views of high peaks then slowly walk ends on reaching Mu Gompa the overnight stop.
DAY 11

Rest day at Mu Gompa visit local village and monastery.

A complete rest day where you can enjoy walk exploring within the exciting high country, where only a few trekkers often visit remote areas of Tsum Valley, here observe traditional and cultural village with an interesting old monastery / Gompa of Mu enriched with ancient idols, statue, and religious relics.
DAY 12

Trek to Rachen Gompa 3,240 m - 05 hrs.

After an interesting and exciting moment around the high Tsum valley, the walk heads to visit Rachen Gompa, as walk follows on the gradual trail with short few ups and downs with the panorama of snow-capped peaks, heading into yak grazing summer pasture to reach Rachen Gompa and its moderate size village for the overnight stop.
DAY 13

Trek back to Chumling 2,386 m - 06 hrs.

The return journey has a wonderful time at high Tsum valley, where the walk leads to the lower area at Chumling where the trail follows into tall tree lines and green vegetation at Chumling the last village of Tsum Valley.
DAY 14

Trek to Namrung 2,630 m-06 hrs.

With fabulous moments around Tsum valley where morning walks lead to join at Manaslu route, as the journey continues for a few hours on a steep-sided scenic valley, coming across rows of Mani prayer stone walls as the walk leads to Ghap a nice village with a possible stop for the lunch break.

After Ghap enters into alpine woodland as the trail meanders to climb as the valley opens out and crosses a large stream flowing from Lidana peak glacier.
On walks views of Manaslu the local name is Kutang (Manaslu) with Pang Phuchin 6,335m, Saula Himal 6,235m with a range of unnamed peaks, walk from here on a slow uphill as altitude gains slowly heading past farm village to reach Namrung for overnight stop, this village with another name as Sho Namru.

With a pleasant stop at Namrung, morning heads into spread out farm fields with Yak herder huts and shelters, Manaslu valley people are much engaged in farming during summer.
From here walk leads to a high and scenic valley all the way to Lo-Gaon a nice village for an overnight stop, and an attractive village of high Manaslu valley, at Lo-Gaon enjoy close views of towering Manaslu North Face.
At Lo-Gaon, visit the village’s old interesting monastery with numerous corten and Mani walls facing views of Ganesh Himal in the east.

DAY 15

Trek to Sama-Gaon 3,530 m/11,578 ft - 06 hrs.

From Lo-Gaon morning walk on the gradual path as altitude gains gradually with a slow climb facing views of Peak 29, after hours of scenic walks enter into a small forest area at Shala village offers an excellent view of Phungi, Manaslu, and Himal Chuli.

Walk for a few hours further as the day ends on reaching at Sama-Gaon a village, with super close views of Mt. Manaslu.

DAY 16

Trek to Samdo 3,860 m - 05 hrs

After resting at Sama-Gaon, today a short walk of a few hours to reach the last village of Gorkha and Manaslu valley, start the trek with a slow climb as altitude gains slowly then take time with a short break to enjoy surrounding wonderful views of peaks and dramatic terrains.

A walk continues finally ending at Samdo village with a short climb to reach a small flat plateau where the village is located, a moderate size village of more than forty houses with about two hundred villagers living in this highly harsh country.

DAY 17

Trek to Dharamshala /Larke Base 4,460 m / 14, 628 ft-04 hrs.

From Samdo’s farewell to the last village of upper Manaslu valley within the Gorkha district, a walk leads to the end of the valley, with a view of peaks including towering Mt. Manaslu.

A walk continues crossing a few icy streams to reach Larke Phedi means the bottom of the pass, also known as Dharmasala means ‘travelers’ rest house/shade’, where in early days also called Larke Bazaar, (where trade and bartering were held between merchant-traders of Gorkha-Manaslu-Manang people and Tibetans on this remote isolated spot).
At Larke, Phedi afternoon is free for short walks and preparations for the next early morning long climb and descent crossing the high Larke-La pass to reach Manang areas.

DAY 18

Climb /cross Larke-La Pass 5,160 m descend to Bhimthang 3,720 m -08 hrs

An early start from Larke base at Phedi walk leads to a steep climb past Dharmasala in snow conditions tough to find the right trail), the walk continues over the ablation section north of Larke glacier, facing views of Cho Danda with Larke Peak, and then ascent gets steeper to reach on top of Larke-la, festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags.

From the top of Larke-La panorama of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II include a series of Manaslu peaks, and then descent back into tree lines through Larcia, as walks lead on moraine ridge to Tambuche at the bottom of Larke-la pass, where a short walk takes you at Bhimthang for overnight.
Bhimthang is a wonderful spot situated on a wide green valley with a number of lodges adorned with prayer Mani walls, surrounded by green tall trees of rhododendron pines and oaks.

DAY 19

Trek to Ghoa 2,940 m -05 hrs.

From Bhimthang rest of the walks is much easier on the downhill path with short ups on route to Ghoa and Dharapani villages, morning enjoy views of peaks then on the gradual path and into thick alpine woodland.

Walk into a beautiful forest to reach a small clearing in the middle of a forest at Ghoa for an overnight stop, a cattle and yak herders summer pasture with a temporary settlement.

DAY 20

Trek to Dharapani 1,963 m (04 hrs) with 2 hrs drive to Besisar.

After Goa today will be the last day walk of the adventure on reaching the large Dharapani village as the walk follows the downhill trail through the forest to reach a nice village at Tilje village, a nice place by the raging Marysangdi River.

From Tilje shortstop climbs for short while after crossing over a bridge to reach the nice village of Dharapani located on the junction of the popular Annapurna and Manaslu circuit route with the district of Manang.
After a refreshing break at Dharapani drive following the Masrsyangdi River downstream to reach a low warmer farm area and a large area of Besisar, a headquarter town of Lamjung district with overnight stops in a nice lodge and hotels.

DAY 21

From Besisar drive to Kathmandu -05 hrs.

Ending our adventure at the foothills of Manaslu where the morning drive takes you to Kathmandu as the drive leads around nice farm villages and towns than on the main road to reach Kathmandu, the transfer to your respective hotels with afternoon free for own individual activities with farewell dinner.
DAY 22

International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal a country of the high Himalayas with colorful culture, our guide and staff transfer you to the airport for your international flight homeward, after a grand memory and experience on Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trekking.
